Wolfenzoom is a small INIT that lets you play Wolfenstein 3D at 320x200 with 2x2 pixel replication—just like on a VGA monitor on a PC!
68k native! PowerPC native!
Hardware requirement: a Mac capable of running Wolfenstein 3D at 640x400 with "Use Quickdraw" turned off.
Software requirements: Wolfenstein 3D (obviously!) and System 7 or later.
Instructions:
1. Install Wolfenzoom on your Mac by copying it to the Extensions folder and restarting the machine.
2. Fire up Wolfenstein 3D.
3. Set the screen size to 320 x 200.
4. Turn on "Use Quickdraw".
5. Play!
Special features:
You can select various modes of operation for Wolfenzoom by pressing different modifier keys on the keyboard while Wolfenstein 3D starts up.
• Press the command key for alternate line mode. In this mode, Wolfenzoom only draws every other line to the screen. This speeds the game up but looks darker. To erase any shadow image (of the loading progress bar, for example) in the undrawn lines, press the command key briefly while playing.
• Press the shift key for interlaced mode. Like alternate line mode except that every other frame is offset vertically by one line. This removes the darkening effect but causes motion blur. Povl H. Pedersen (pope@imv.aau.dk) suggested this, so blame him if it makes you sick.
• Press the option key to flip the screen horizontally.
• Press the control key to flip the screen vertically.
Horizontal and vertical flipping work independently of each other and of alternate line or interlaced mode.
